California New Location - BPG

BPG Moves into New Home in the Los Angeles, California Area

BPG Designs, LLC relocated its Los Angeles office and construction yard to a new location in Fullerton, California. The new office building and yard will be an anchor point for the greater Los Angeles area and allows for further expansion as our California division grows.

The new location has been in operation since August 1, 2021, and currently serves customers’ needs in our Designs (GIS / Mapping Surveying, CAD Services, Design Services), and Technology Services. Future services will include Construction (Horizontal Directional Drilling, Vacuum Excavation, Excavation, Utility Construction, Fiber Optic Cable Installation), and Electrical (Lighting, Renovations, Industrial Controls, Tenant Improvements, UG Utility) needs.

“We’ve been looking at this move for quite some time now,” commented Justin Platchek, the Chief Operations Officer of BPG Designs, LLC. “BPG started operating in Southern California with the opening of our Carlsbad office, serving the Orange County and San Diego markets and added an additional office in the Los Angeles area in May of 2020.  The California Division has grown rapidly since then, and we’ve added an excellent team to handle customer requests with the precision that BPG is known for in Arizona and Nevada.  It was clear to us that it was necessary to add a construction yard to handle all our equipment needs in the greater Los Angeles area.”

BPG Designs, LLC also recently hired a Director to run the fast-expanding California Division.  Justin Platchek continued, “Fabian Bautista has worked with many companies in the industry, such as Ridge Communications, ExteNet Systems, Inc., and Crown Castle, and is an excellent addition to the already impressive California Team.  He will oversee all facets of the day-to-day operations of the company’s divisions and administrative functions.”

Structured Cabling

Structured Cabling Systems for Smart Buildings

Building Enterprise Networks has become as critical as building electrical, water, and gas systems. Several studies have shown that nearly 75% of leasing decision-makers feel it is essential to have a reliable internet connection in their office space to conduct company business.

Traditional LAN networks of the past only relied on connectivity to desktop PCs. Today, the entire building automation, HVAC, lighting, AP, and camera’s to name a few, rely on a healthy and robust structured cabling system.

Avondale Property BPG

BPG Plans Expansion to the West Valley in Phoenix, Arizona

BPG recently purchased land to build a second location in Avondale, Arizona. In addition to their headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, this second Arizona location will double BPG’s office and yard space in the Phoenix Metro Area.  This decision supports the company’s growth strategy, accommodates the rapid growth in the West Valley, and leverages the area’s diverse construction talent pool.

“The decision to expand our presence into the West Valley was a logical step in our business growth strategy,” said Ben Goddard, President, and CEO. “We are outgrowing our current yard in Tempe. The main driving factor in moving forward with the land purchase and building this second location in Arizona was to reduce travel time to and from work for our employees living in the West Valley.  Establishing a second location also provides us the opportunity to expand our staff with employees from the West Valley, and a second-yard location gives us capabilities to better serve our existing and new customers on that side of town.”

Fiber Optics and Conduit Plowing Services

BPG Adds Conduit and Fiber Optic Cable Plowing to its Services

The demand for high-speed internet connections is greater now than ever before. Carriers are rushing to install fiber optic connections to homes, businesses, government facilities, smart cities, and educational institutions. In the power and energy industry, solar and wind farms are becoming more in demand as the push for cleaner energy is a priority in the private and public sectors. Power and fiber optic cable is the primary method utilized to connect the solar panels and wind turbines back to a central control center.

To meet this demand and other long-haul projects, BPG has invested in plowing equipment to meet our customer’s needs. Conduit and fiber optic plowing is a cost-effective installation method that is advantageous to our customer’s budgets and installation timelines.  On average, there is a 75 percent cost saving by simply using a utility plow versus trenching on long-haul projects.

We are pleased to announce the recent acquisition of a Vibratory Plow and Pre-trip dozer to place underground facilities.  Our John Deere 1050 J & K models of dozers can place direct bury fiber optic cable and 1.25”-5” conduit from 1-8 conduits. BPG, can service the lower 48 of the United States with full-service turnkey crews.

Bridge Accident

Tempe Town Lake Bridge Fire – We Find a Way!

On July 29, 2020, a bridge over Tempe Town Lake caught fire and partially collapsed after a train derailed. Tempe Fire Department officials said the derailment happened around 6:09 a.m. and involved a Union Pacific train.

The BPG splicing team had just finished their normal night shift when Kory Setzke, our Project Manager,  received a call from one of our clients. The client, the BPG Construction and Tech Teams were well aware of the severity of this accident and the potential outages for client due to fiber breaking, especially since this involved long-haul network connectivity. Long-haul fiber is usually built along railroad tracks as it connects other cities and states such as Tucson and California, unlike the metro fiber network. At the time of the accident, no fiber strands had broken, but the BPG teams understood that the fiber would be sheared in half once the rescue workers removed the damaged train from the accident site and valuable time could be saved by prepping accordingly. BPG was tasked with rerouting the Long-haul fiber into the Metro Fiber Network to bypass the damage.

Our Project Manager immediately started to reach out to the splicing team to gather a team to respond to the incident. The splicing team met at the yard to pick up four of our splicing trailers. They then met the construction team close by the crash site by 9am. The construction team was already doing their part to assess the situation and to begin trenching new conduit to allow the connection of new fiber cable between the long-haul and Metro fiber network.

Throughout the day, while prepping, splice crew members were taking breaks in the trailers to get out of the heat and even to take short naps, since this was going to be a long day and night, after having worked a full shift already. At 10 pm the rescue team started moving the damaged train cars, and the fiber went down as anticipated. Three Network Cabling Companies were affected. Our client, who works exclusively with BPG was the first one to be up and running again! Great job, BPG!

“This was one of the most unique fiber outages I have experienced,” our Project Manager explained. “I was extremely impressed with the construction and splicing departments for their teamwork and their willingness to do whatever it took to get the job done. It is awesome to see how the BPG team provides turn-key services for our clients, even in emergency situations. Our client was on site the entire time and even with the splicing team during the cutover to help determine the best possible splicing plan. We had not had such a fire drill in quite a while, and it was very encouraging to see the entire team step up and work together so well.”
